Tests for

Hepatitis B

The blood test for Hepatitis B is for anyone who needs to check their immunity status. It does not test for current infection of the virus, nor does it identify whether you can transmit the virus to others. It is used by people who have either had Hepatitis B before or by anyone who has been vaccinated.

It can identify the presence of antibodies that will prevent you getting the disease in future or in the case where your immunity status is low, will ensure you receive a booster vaccination. It is useful for the following reasons:

  • If you work in a healthcare role where you are exposed to blood or other bodily fluids
  • If you are travelling to a country where it’s prevalent
  • If you require the test for a pre-employment or visa medical
  • If you need to check your status before arranging for a booster vaccine

This test uses a blood sample to establish your titre reading. It will help you or a doctor understand if you are currently immune to Hepatitis B. It can either be carried out as a home test using a finger prick kit, or a clinic test using a needle from a trained nurse.

This test will only identify your current immunity status to Hepatitis B and will not diagnose if you have hepatitis B at present and need treatment. If you are unsure whether this test is correct for you, or you are wanting to find out more about our other testing options, please contact our friendly team.

If you are wanting to get tested for immunity against Hepatitis B, book your test with Your Sexual Health today. Available as a clinic visit at one of our 100+ clinics around the UK, or as a Postal Test Kit, testing for immunity couldn’t be easier. With comfortable clinic settings and lightning-quick turnaround times, you won’t find a better private service anywhere else. Book your test using the ‘Book Now’ button.  If you need other health advice or help booking your test, please feel free to get in touch with our team.

Phlebotomy Station Procedure

You order a phlebotomy station test. A sample collection kit will then be sent to you by post. The sample kit can be dispatched to an address of choice or, if discretion is required, the order can be delivered to a post office for collection.

Upon receipt of the test, the patient is required to contact YSH to book their appointment. This can be done via email ([email protected]) or telephone (0161 660 2599).

Once the appointment is booked, you will receive a confirmation of appointment, including the full address of the clinic, with instructions.

If urine or swabs are required, these should be done prior to attending the clinic appointment.  Only the blood sample will be taken in a clinic.

Photographic ID must be taken to the appointment and you must remember to take the sample collection kit with you.

Once the nurse has drawn blood, they will hand the sample back to you for posting. You need to take a photograph of the tracking label, before placing the sample kit in a post box.

Results will be uploaded to the online portal once available from the laboratory.

Clinic Procedure

We have a number of private clinics across the country, accessible via public transport and main roads, with some clinics offering convenient evening and weekend appointments.

To book this test, simply press the ‘Select This Test’ button above. You’ll then be taken to our booking page where you can choose the best clinic for your needs.

Our clinics are all based in a discreet setting and because many of them are general health clinics, there’s no reason why anyone will know that you’re there for a sexual health screening. Just let the receptionist know who you are upon arrival.

The Hepatitis B Immunity test requires a blood sample only. The blood sample is collected by a trained nurse or doctor. They’ll take care of you and ensure you’re comfortable, but it will require the use of a needle.

Once you’ve deposited your sample, we’ll take care of the rest. We’ll notify you of your results using our online portal as soon as they’re reported by the laboratory.

Home Visit Procedure

By choosing a home test we’ll post a sample kit to your door for you to collect the sample in your own home, before returning it in a prepaid envelope. Detailed instructions will be provided with the kit, but here’s how the process works.

To book this test, simply press the ‘Select This Test’ button above. You’ll then be taken to our booking page where you will need to select the Postal Test option. Simply enter the address most convenient to you – we can deliver anywhere within the UK.

As soon as we receive your order the kit will be dispatched with all of the paperwork you’ll require. Our kits are sent by first class post unless you choose the Click & Collect option, which could take slightly longer.

Your blood sample will be collected using a finger prick sample collection kit. Full instructions will be provided with the kit and it’s important you follow them closely for the most accurate results. Using a lancet to collect your sample should be a relatively quick and only a slightly uncomfortable procedure.

We provide you with a return postage envelope that can be sent directly to our laboratory. Simply put the package in the post box and as soon as it’s received by the lab we will begin testing. Once your blood sample has been tested for Hepatitis B immunity, we will notify you of your results through your preferred contact method, or via our online portal. To find out more about the accuracy of your Home Test Kit, read our recent blog post.
