What Does A Full STI Test Involve?
If you decide to book one of our full STI checks, you’ll need to provide both a blood and urine sample. Below, you’ll find a summary of what’s involved in this screening, depending on which location option you choose:
Testing at Home
If you choose to complete your full STI check at home, we’ll send it right to your door. You’ll receive detailed instructions inside the kit, but here’s what you can expect from the process:
1. Order Your Test
Once we’ve received your order details, we’ll send the kit to your chosen address by First Class post.
2. Take Your Blood Sample
A finger prick blood sample kit will be included, and even if you haven’t used that type of technology before, don’t worry; easy-to-follow instructions are included.
3. Take Your Urine Sample
Make sure you collect the first stream of urine in the cup provided. Then, fasten the lid and you’re ready.
4. Return the Sample
A return postage envelope is provided, so simply put the samples in the envelope and send it to our laboratory. We’ll contact you with the results as soon as they’re ready.
Testing at a Clinic
Regardless of which of our clinics you decide to go to for your full STI check, the process is the same. To make sure it goes smoothly, please follow the steps below:
1. Order Your Test
Choose the test and book a time slot and day that works best for you.
2. Wait for your appointment to be confirmed
You would be able to choose the time, but wait to receive confirmation before turning up for your appointment.
3. Arrive at the clinic
A trained nurse or a doctor would take your blood sample and you would be able to take the urine sample in the clinic.
4. Wait for results
Once you’ve provided the samples, leave the rest to us. As soon as we have got the results of your full STI screening, we will be in touch with you.
Testing At A Phlebotomy Clinic
A recent addition to Your Sexual Health, our phlebotomy clinics can be found in Superdrug stores across the country. The process is slightly different, so here’s what you can expect:
1. Book Your Appointment
Book your chosen test at one of our phlebotomy stations and we’ll send a kit to your door to help you collect urine or swab samples.

Make sure you’ve collected the necessary samples for your test before your appointment. Bring them, and a form of identification, with you to the clinic.

3. Gather Your Samples
At the clinic, a nurse will collect your blood sample and return it to you for posting. Put this, and your other samples, into the supplied return postage envelope.

Post your samples to one of our laboratories using any post box nearby. We’ll let you know the results as soon as they’re available.

The frequency at which you should get tested for any STI depends on how often you have sex with new partners. If you’re regularly having sex with new people, we recommend that you get a full STI test before having intercourse with a new person.
If you and your partner are monogamous (only have sex with one person), you should both get tested at the start of your relationship. If this test comes back negative, there’s no real need for regular tests afterwards.
Although full STI screenings can be slightly uncomfortable, they aren’t painful. Whether your test requires you to give blood or take a swab, this discomfort will only last for a few seconds. If you’re coming to a clinic and are worried about the discomfort, let your nurse or doctor know. They’ll talk you through the process and, hopefully, put you at ease.
No, smear tests do not check for sexually-transmitted diseases. Smear tests check the health of your cervix. They also look for the presence of high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) cells that, if left untreated, may become cervical cancer.
The results of a private STD test have a much shorter turnaround time than NHS tests. This time will depend on the test but, once our lab receives your sample(s), your results will be available within four working days.

In the unfortunate event that your comprehensive test returns a positive result, you have two options moving forward. You can decide to action the results with your own GP, or Your Sexual Health can recommend an independent, private GP service.
Getting treatment for any positive test results is important to prevent the issue from becoming more serious. However, we won’t add any results to your medical records unless asked, so you can be sure we’ll give you the privacy and respect you deserve.
