Swab
This test is designed for anyone who believes they’ve had sex with someone who has gonorrhoea.
Since this test only identifies gonorrhoea, it’s recommended that you take a more comprehensive test if you wish to fully assess your sexual health. If you have symptoms, these may not be caused by gonorrhoea, but could be caused by other conditions.
The test is carried out using swab samples that will be collected during your appointment under the supervision of the clinician. You may be required to collect the swab sample yourself, but full instructions will be given. We’ll then carry out the test using your samples whilst you wait.
This test takes 30 minutes to gain accurate results, however a confirmatory sample is also taken and sent to our laboratory for a more thorough analysis.
Please be advised that this test will only offer the advised level of accuracy 14 days after potential exposure. If you believe you came into contact sooner than 14 days then you may wish to contact our customer services team who can discuss your options with you.
Clinic Procedure
As this is an Instant Test, offering results whilst you wait, this test is only available by visiting one of our specially selected clinics. You’ll be assisted by a nurse or doctor in collecting your sample, before they test them using the latest state of the art testing panels.

Our clinics are all based in a discreet setting and because many of them are general health clinics, there’s no reason why anyone will know that you’re there for a sexual health screening. Just let the receptionist know who you are upon arrival.
This test requires a swab sample to gain accurate results. For men this involves a urethral swab and for women this requires a high vaginal swab. Most of our clinics require you to take the sample yourself, but you will be given full instructions upon arrival at the clinic.
Once you’ve deposited your samples you’ll be asked to wait in the clinic waiting room whilst the reagent has time to react to your samples. For this test it can be up to 30 minutes. The nurse or doctor will then notify you of your results.
Can Gonorrhoea Be Detected Immediately?
No, there needs to be a window period of at least 7 days before tests can detect a potential Gonorrhoea infection. We advise waiting 14 days, as this is the optimum time: it’s not too long after exposure while not too soon for a test to give a false negative result.
Can I Test Negative for Gonorrhoea and Still Have It?
Yes, if you test too soon after you’ve been exposed, the test might come back negative. That’s why make sure you have waited for the required minimum number of days before taking a test.
How Accurate Is a Rapid Gonorrhoea Test?
