Tests for
The comprehensive STD test is designed for people who want the peace of mind that our Premium Profile test offers, without looking into all of the lesser known sexually transmitted infections. This test still offers a comprehensive screen against the most serious and most common conditions, including chlamydia, gonorrhoea and HIV.
This test has a 2 day turnaround time to gain accurate results once your samples are received by the lab. On many occasions our results are returned quicker. Some of the conditions within the Comprehensive Profile test may be diagnosed quicker than others and we’ll notify you of each as and when we receive them.
Please be advised that this test will only offer the advised level of accuracy against all conditions 28 days after potential exposure. If you believe you came into contact more recently than 28 days then you may wish to take one of our Early Detection tests which offer accurate results just 10 days after exposure. To find out more about typical incubation periods for tests, read our recent blog post.
If you’re looking for peace of mind, without testing for the lesser known bacterial infections that our Premium Profile tests for, then this test is for you. If you only want to test for one STD, you may prefer our individual STD tests. Your potential exposure will need to have been over 28 days for accurate results. Phlebotomy Station Procedure
You order a phlebotomy station test. A sample collection kit will then be sent to you by post. The sample kit can be dispatched to an address of choice or, if discretion is required, the order can be delivered to a post office for collection.
Upon receipt of the test, the patient is required to contact YSH to book their appointment. This can be done via email ([email protected]) or telephone (0161 660 2599).
Once the appointment is booked, you will receive a confirmation of appointment, including the full address of the clinic, with instructions.
If urine or swabs are required, these should be done prior to attending the clinic appointment. Only the blood sample will be taken in a clinic.
Photographic ID must be taken to the appointment and you must remember to take the sample collection kit with you.
Once the nurse has drawn blood, they will hand the sample back to you for posting. You need to take a photograph of the tracking label, before placing the sample kit in a post box.
Results will be uploaded to the online portal once available from the laboratory.
Clinic Procedure
By selecting a clinic test you’ll be assisted by a nurse or doctor in one of our sexual health clinics located across the country. Find your nearest clinic by typing in your postcode on our Clinics page.
To book this test, simply press the ‘Select This Test’ button above. You’ll then be taken to our booking page where you can choose the best clinic for your needs. Many of the clinics available for this test offer weekend and evening appointments for your convenience.
Our clinics are all based in a discreet setting and because many of them are general health clinics, there’s no reason anyone will know that you’re there for a sexual health screening. Just let the receptionist know who you are upon arrival.
The Profile 2 test requires a blood and urine sample. The blood sample is collected by a trained nurse or doctor. They’ll take care of you and ensure you’re comfortable, but it will require the use of a needle.
The urine sample will be collected by you in a clinic toilet, with the nurse or doctor providing you with full instructions before you deposit the sample. For the test to be fully accurate you must catch the first stream of urine.
Once you’ve deposited your sample, we’ll take care of the rest. We’ll notify you of your results using our online portal as soon as they’re reported by the laboratory.
Home Visit Procedure
By choosing a home test we’ll post a sample kit to your door for you to collect the sample in your own home, before returning it in a prepaid envelope. Detailed instructions will be provided with the kit, but here’s how the home testing process works:
To book this test, simply press the ‘Select This Test’ button above. You’ll then be taken to our booking page where you will need to select the Postal Test option.
As soon as we receive your order the kit will be dispatched with all of the paperwork you’ll require. Our kits are sent by first class post unless you choose the Click & Collect option.
Your blood sample will be collected using a finger prick sample collection kit. Full instructions will be provided with the kit and it’s important you follow them closely. If you want to find out what a finger prick test is and how it works, read our blog post.
Your urine sample requires the first stream of urine to be collected. Fill the sample to the line and ensure the lid is securely fastened.
We provide you with a return postage envelope that can be sent directly to our laboratory. Simply put the package in the post box and as soon as it’s received by the lab we will begin testing.
If you have any questions on the accuracy of home testing kits, read our recent blog post – ‘Are STI home testing kits reliable?’. In the blog we discuss whether home STI testing kits are reliable, how they work, how long it takes to receive your results and more.
