Tests for
This test is for you if you believe you may have recently come into contact with the Herpes Simplex Virus and have symptoms of herpes, including blisters or lesions affecting the face or genitals. Due to the nature of the test, it wouldn’t be accurate if you have been infected a long time ago, so make sure you opt for this herpes test kit only if you have recently been exposed and have symptoms.
Note: if you wish to test for a previous infection with herpes and you don’t have any symptoms, then a better suit for you would be this Herpes Simplex (IgG) test, which is accurate from 28 days following potential exposure.
If you have symptoms then this home test will offer accurate results straight away. This means that you don’t need to wait for weeks; just take the test as soon as you start noticing symptoms and you will get the results within days.
This test has a two-day turnaround time after reaching the laboratory. As soon as we have got your results, we will notify you using our online portal. Positive tests can be actioned by your own GP. We can also recommend an independent private GP service should you require it.
Phlebotomy Station Procedure
You order a phlebotomy station test. A sample collection kit will then be sent to you by post. The sample kit can be dispatched to an address of choice or, if discretion is required, the order can be delivered to a post office for collection.
Upon receipt of the test, the patient is required to contact YSH to book their appointment. This can be done via email ([email protected]) or telephone (0161 660 2599).
Once the appointment is booked, you will receive a confirmation of appointment, including the full address of the clinic, with instructions.
If urine or swabs are required, these should be done prior to attending the clinic appointment. Only the blood sample will be taken in a clinic.
Photographic ID must be taken to the appointment and you must remember to take the sample collection kit with you.
Once the nurse has drawn blood, they will hand the sample back to you for posting. You need to take a photograph of the tracking label, before placing the sample kit in a post box.
Results will be uploaded to the online portal once available from the laboratory.
Clinic Procedure
By selecting a clinic test you’ll be assisted by a nurse or doctor in one of our sexual health clinics located across the country.
To book this test, simply press the ‘Select This Test’ button above. You’ll then be taken to our booking page where you can choose the best clinic for your needs.
Our clinics are all based in a discreet setting and because many of them are general health clinics, there’s no reason why anyone will know that you’re there for a sexual health screening. Just let the receptionist know who you are upon arrival.
The Herpes Simplex I/II (IgM) test requires a blood sample only. The blood sample is collected by a trained nurse or doctor. They’ll take care of you and ensure you’re comfortable, but it will require the use of a needle.
Once you’ve deposited your sample, we’ll take care of the rest. We’ll notify you of your results using our online portal as soon as they’re reported by the laboratory.
Home Visit Procedure
When choosing an at-home test kit, we’ll post a sample kit to your door for you to collect the sample in your own home, before returning it in a prepaid envelope. Detailed instructions will be provided with the kit, but here’s how the process works.
To book this test, simply press the ‘Select This Test’ button above. You’ll then be taken to our booking page where you will need to select the Postal Test option.
As soon as we receive your order the kit will be dispatched with all of the paperwork you’ll require. Our kits are sent by first class post unless you choose the Click & Collect option.
Your blood sample will be collected using a finger prick sample collection kit. Full instructions will be provided with the kit and it’s important you follow them closely.
We provide you with a return postage envelope that can be sent directly to our laboratory. Simply put the package in the post box and as soon as it’s received by the lab we will begin testing.

As long as you choose the right test, then you can trust the accuracy of the results.

Finally, there are tests that check for Herpes Simplex I only, Herpes Simplex II only or tests that check for both.
Can I get tested for herpes without symptoms?
